When the air starts to warm and the sun blesses us with its rays a few moments longer each day, New Yorkers shake off the winter chill and think, “Ah, summer.”
For those in the Utica area, summer has another meaning: Another season of Saranac Thursdays.
For a dozen or so weeks out of the year, usually starting at the end of May and running through just before fall, the F.X. Matt Brewing Co. hosts outdoor concerts featuring local and regional artists. Five dollars (and your I.D.) gets you in and a ticket for a draft beer, with portions of the proceeds benefiting the local United Way. This week marks the end of the 16th concert series.
Varick Street, a main thoroughfare of bars and restaurants adjacent to the brewery, becomes a magnet for adults to eat, drink and have fun. Smaller stages are often set up at these venues on Thursdays to keep live music playing throughout the evening.
