Brewery Ommegang will host “Karaoke Against Cancer,” a silent auction and karaoke event at Café Ommegang on Saturday, February 22, from 7-10 pm. The event will benefit two local cancer patients and The Bob Simon/Loretta Anagnost Patient Assistance Fund at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY.
Brewery employee Amy Mulligan is a co-organizer of this year’s event. Last year, the event was organized and held in her honor after she was diagnosed with advanced stage Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Mulligan was pregnant with twins and underwent chemotherapy during the second half of her pregnancy.
“I am so grateful for all the businesses who donated items for the silent auction and the people who attended the event to help support the cause,” said Mulligan. “I will never forget what others have done for me, and now that I have my health back, it’s important for me to pay it back and make sure this year’s event is a success for the patients who will benefit from the money we raise.”
Mulligan has a clean bill of health and she and her husband, Wes, welcomed twin boys, Jackson and Nolan, in April last year. Mulligan is back working part-time at the brewery as of last month.
“Karaoke Against Cancer” is for ages 21 and up. Admission is $10 and will be collected at the door. One Ommegang ale is included in the cost of admission.
Bidding for the silent auction will run from 7-10 PM and the winners will be announced shortly after 9 PM. Auction items include an Ommegang sign autographed by brewmaster Phil Leinhart, jewelry, gift certificates to local businesses, and tickets to the summer concert series. Tickets to Snommegang Beer Festival on Saturday, March 1 and VIP tickets to BCTC in August will also be up for auction.
Guests will be entertained by the vocal stylings of Ommegang employees and are welcome to show off their skills on the karaoke machine.
